ABSTRACT

The high infectivity and uncertainty of COVID-19 could intensify the tourists' psychological anxiety, and further greatly hinder the tourist flow and tourism recovery. Finding ways to ease tourist anxiety and renew their travel confidence is a critical issue that has remained unsolved during COVID-19. The government and tourist destination, providing and guaranteeing tourism activities, are helpful to alleviate tourist anxiety. Therefore, fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) and social support theory were used to explore how to alleviate tourist anxiety from the dual perspectives of the government and the destination. The results indicate that there are seven configurations for alleviating tourists' psychological anxiety, and the role of both government and destination are core factors. Among them, the positive destination image is indispensable. Moreover, there is a substitution between crisis management effectiveness and destination sustainability. The research deepens the matching relationship between multidimensional antecedents and tourist anxiety, promotes the application of social support theory in tourist negative emotion, and expands the research framework of tourist anxiety influenced by major crisis events. Our findings provide practical implications for the government and tourist destinations in dealing with major crises and contribute to tourism recovery and competitiveness remodelling during COVID-19. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Virtual tourism has become popular in recent years. However, there is still a research gap on virtual tourist motivation. This study aims to identify virtual tourist motivation and explore the relationship between virtual tourism and on-site tourism. Design/methodology/approach: This research identifies virtual tourist motivation based on Means-end chain (MEC) theory. Laddering interviews with 32 respondents were conducted to construct a hierarchical value map. Additionally, a motivation analysis of virtual tourism and on-site tourism was developed based on a review of the relevant literature. Findings: This exploratory study revealed 12 attributes, 9 results and 4 values that virtual tourists wish to achieve and identified 5 means-end chains where self-satisfaction is the most important value-led motivation. Compared with on-site tourism motivations, virtual tourism shows possibilities of replacing, complementing and extending on-site tourism under certain circumstances. However, it significantly depends on whether tourists are attracted by the technical characteristics, security and experience conditions of virtual tourism. Originality/value: This study contributes to understanding virtual tourist motivation and offers motivation-based insights into the relationship between virtual and on-site tourism. Managerial implications on how to attract potential online tourists are also provided. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

With the development of information technology such as computer vision and human-computer interaction, online physical education has become an active field of current physical education research. Especially with COVID-19, a significant number of people are restricted to learning and exercising motor skills in small spaces, but most of the movement cannot be carried out in narrow environment. Wushu is exempt from this restriction, so it is often used in online physical education in China. In this context, we propose a Wushu posture recognition system based on camera and MediaPipe for tracking hand, head and body movements of users. According to the Landmarks returned by Mediapipe, we designed recognition algorithms for Fist, Palm, Hook, Tiger Talon, Forward Lunge, Horse Stance and Empty Step. By testing 400 photos, the experimental results show that these algorithms can effectively identify these movements. From there, we built a system using Python to help users perform Wushu training independently, safely, and efficiently without a teacher. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Although the government contributes to the tourism recovery, the influence of the government on the micro-perceptions of tourism managers remains limited. The results of 415 samples demonstrate that government crisis management restores managers' confidence through different mediation of the sense of gain. Information and communication management improve only their sense of spiritual gain, while human resource development enhance merely their sense of material gain. Moreover, environmental uncertainty shows no moderation on restoring the managers' confidence. This study develops a theoretical framework for tourism crisis management and provides policy implications for the development of small tourism enterprises in times of crisis.

ABSTRACT

Due to the characteristics of COVID-19, the epidemic develops rapidly and overwhelms health service systems worldwide. Many patients suffer from life-threatening systemic problems and need to be carefully monitored in ICUs. An intelligent prognosis can help physicians take an early intervention, prevent adverse outcomes, and optimize the medical resource allocation, which is urgently needed, especially in this ongoing global pandemic crisis. However, in the early stage of the epidemic outbreak, the data available for analysis is limited due to the lack of effective diagnostic mechanisms, the rarity of the cases, and privacy concerns. In this paper, we propose a distilled transfer learning framework, DistCare, which leverages the existing publicly available online Electronic Medical Records to enhance the prognosis for inpatients with emerging infectious diseases. It learns to embed the COVID-19-related medical features based on massive existing EMR data. The transferred parameters are further trained to imitate the teacher model's representation based on distillation, which embeds the health status more comprehensively on the source dataset. We conduct Length-of-Stay prediction experiments for patients in ICUs on real-world COVID-19 datasets. The experiment results indicate that our proposed model consistently outperforms competitive baseline methods. In order to further verify the scalability of DistCare to deal with different clinical tasks on different EMR datasets, we conduct an additional mortality prediction experiment on End-Stage Renal Disease datasets. The extensive experiments demonstrate that DistCare can benefit the prognosis for emerging pandemics and other diseases with limited EMR.

ABSTRACT

Background: The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has transformed innumerable aspects of clinical practice, particularly in the field of organ transplantation As outcomes data remain scarce and a definitive treatment has yet to be realized, it is anticipated that transplant of an actively or recently COVID-19 infected patient could result in an adverse outcome Meanwhile, it is important to acknowledge that withholding or delaying transplant can lead to increased morbidity or death in some patients We describe the successful pediatric liver transplant for unresectable hepatoblastoma in a 4-year-old formerly premature male with COVID-19 infection prior to transplant. The first negative nasopharyngeal (NP) swab was documented one month after initial diagnosis, when SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were also detected The patient was therefore actively listed for orthotopic liver transplant after completing four blocks of a SIOPEL-4 based regimen due to his PRETEXT IV disease which remained unresectable Following three additional negative NP swabs and resolution of symptoms for four weeks, he underwent a whole-organ pediatric liver transplant Methods: COVID-19 positivity determined via NP swab SARS-CoV-2 real-time RT-PCR (Hologic Aptima SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR assay) IgG and IgM total SARS-CoV-2 antibodies detected via Ortho Clinical Diagnostics VITROS®nodiagnostics Products Anti- SARS-CoV-2 Test Results: Patient received standard prednisone and tacrolimus-based immunosuppression without induction therapy following transplant Post-transplant course was remarkable for neutropenia and thrombocytopenia, which were closely followed, with discharge home on posttransplant day #11 Prior to discharge, RT-PCR testing was repeated three times and each test did not detect SARSCoV- 2 RNA Additionally, SARS-CoV-2 antibodies persisted at four weeks after transplant Conclusion: We describe one of the earliest, if not the first case of liver transplant following recent recovery from COVID-19 in a pediatric patient with a lethal malignant liver tumor A better understanding of how to balance the risk profile of transplant in the setting of COVID-19 with disease progression if transplant is not performed is needed It remains imperative that we provide life-saving liver transplants to children amid the COVID-19 pandemic while recognizing that transplant with any active viral infection typically portends worse outcomes In addition, the safety of our healthcare team remains a priority To meet these goals, we followed existing guidance to document clearance of the viral infection and resolution of symptoms and only then performed the transplant This case highlights that liver transplant can be safely performed in a child upon documented clearance of active COVID-19 infection with adherence to current guidelines and close follow-up.
